Assassin’s Creed Mirage finally has a release date. During the PlayStation Showcase event, earlier Thursday, Ubisoft confirmed that the Baghdad-set chapter will arrive on October 12 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The date was actually leaked ahead of time by some Japanese retail listings, which usually don’t list placeholder dates. The title, codenamed ‘Rift’, was originally planned as an expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but was expanded into a standalone release to fill a gap in Ubisoft’s launch schedule for the fiscal year. Ubisoft Bordeaux leads development on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which also received a gameplay trailer at the showcase.
As previously reported, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is going back to its franchise roots, introducing a tighter scope with a focus on crafty kills, unlike the open-world RPG-esque elements they’ve adopted in recent entries. In it, you play as Basim Ibn Ishaq, a side character from AC: Valhalla, who is seen taking advantage of his skills to track and eliminate targets. In last year’s cinematic trailer, he was inducted into the Hidden Ones clan by his master/mentor Roshan (Shohreh Aghdashlu) – a petty thief turned assassin. This new footage appears to be set sometime later, featuring all the hallmarks of the original Assassin’s Creed games. You have the art of aerial assassination, hidden blades and blending in with the crowd as Basim slowly perfects his art.
“You’ve died and been reborn,” Roshan says in voiceover, as we’re treated to visuals of the long-missing Parkour system, as Basim is seen swinging around metallic bars and swinging around corners. There’s also a new addition called Pole Vault, where you sit on top of a giant pole and use its center of gravity to slowly tilt and descend to cover large distances in the air. Smoke bombs and leaps of faith with natural stealth mechanics like pickpocketing. An unnamed character in the Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay trailer notes that you can bribe guards to stroll into the facility, or just sneak in and do it the old-fashioned way. There also appears to be a repeating day and night cycle, which may be the case. Manipulating Basim at will by resting in bed – like a dying light.
The gameplay trailer ends with a flurry of action sequences, where Basim is seen dual-wielding with a dagger and curved sword combo and laying waste to enemies. It’s unclear how they work, but I’m assuming the daggers will be used to parry incoming attacks. Ubisoft also mentioned that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is now up for pre-order on all platforms, will get Arabic voiceover and full localization. Pre-orders will receive an exclusive bonus quest at launch called ‘The Forty Thieves’, where you’ll uncover Ali Baba’s cave. In keeping with the theme, the password will also be ‘open sesame’?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be out on October 12, on PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
