Amid the ongoing protest by wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar-Mantar, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh said the ‘tukde tukde gang’ has joined the protest and the movement is now also against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said laws related to sexual harassment are flawed and being misused against them, ANI reported. He said the laws were made with good intentions but some people are using them as a ‘weapon’ against people who have a problem with them. Brij Bhushan made this comment while talking to reporters in Ayodhya on Friday.
BJP MP and WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of sexually harassing young players, including minors.
Speaking on the protest, he said that when the protest started, the main demand of the wrestlers was that he should resign from the post of WFI chief by 4 pm that day. “But now, the protest is against PM Modi, Yogi (Adityanath) too. Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and ‘Tukde Tukde Gang’ have joined it. The protest has reached Punjab and from there to Canada. What is the meaning of protest against me in Canada? ?” He further said.
Reacting to the allegations, according to ANI, he said, “There are some flaws in the law. These laws are being misused. It’s not just in my case. You can find someone in your neighborhood who is facing these laws. The law is made with good intentions. came, but it is being misused as a weapon by people who have any kind of problem.”
The BJP MP said, “They should have gone back home after the Delhi Police registered the FIR. This is no longer their (wrestlers’) movement. Some more people are involved and are misleading the wrestlers. As Bajrang Punia said if he knows how To bow down to someone, he knows how to cut someone’s head. What kind of language is this? Whose head do you want to cut? You used to respect Brijbhushan a while back, touch his feet and now look at him. Language .”
Meanwhile, thousands of wrestlers’ supporters staged a candlelight protest on Tuesday from Jantar-Mantar to India Gate under heavy security to mark the month-long movement.
Earlier, Vinesh Phogat had said that it was decided to hold a Mahila Maha Panchayat on May 28 in front of the new parliament building. “We have decided to hold a peaceful Mahila Maha Panchayat in front of the New Parliament Building on May 28.” she said.
It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the new Parliament building on Sunday (May 28).
Several top grapplers including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Mallick are protesting against WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on Jantar-Mantar. They have accused him of sexual harassment and are demanding his arrest.
The first part of the protest was held earlier this year. Following the agitation, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, announced the formation of an ‘Inspection Committee’ to investigate the allegations against the WFI, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh and several coaches. Wrestling Federation of India Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar is also named as an accused in the FIR.
